Bangor University is a respected UK university set between the mountains and the sea, known for its strong academic offering, close-knit community, and distinctive sense of place within North Wales.
Most university ads look the same.
Bangor University didn’t want that.
They were looking for a bold, original campaign that could stand out on a national stage, something visually distinctive and creatively ambitious.
Lush Films was invited to pitch alongside a number of production companies, with our concept and creative hook ultimately selected for its originality and clarity of vision.
Lush Films developed a concept built around bioluminescence, using it as a visual metaphor for the energy, creativity, and individuality within Bangor University.
We combined cinematic live-action with subtle CGI to bring this idea to life, carefully integrating light and movement into real environments across campus and the surrounding landscape.
Filming took place across multiple locations, culminating in a large-scale drone shoot over the Snowdonia mountains, connecting the university’s identity to its natural setting.
The campaign was delivered across multiple formats, including a 30-second TV commercial for UK broadcast, alongside extended edits for digital and social platforms.
The campaign delivered a visually distinctive and memorable piece of work that set Bangor University apart from more conventional university advertising.
Beyond the initial TV commercial, the success of the project led to an ongoing creative partnership, with Lush Films commissioned to produce a wider range of content across the university, including departmental films and seasonal campaigns.
This resulted in a cohesive body of work that consistently reflects the university’s energy, character, and sense of place.

This TV commercial for Bangor University was built around a simple idea, to show something you can’t easily put into words.
Using bioluminescence as a visual thread, we explored the energy, creativity, and individuality that defines life at the university—moving away from the expected and into something more distinctive.

A film from Bangor University Business School, to the Bahrain Institute of banking and finance. The film was made up of interviews with the key stakeholders in the collaboration along with footage of the Bangor Campus.
